Trusts & Estates Paralegal
Summary
The downtown New York office of a premiere law firm seeks a Trusts and Estates Paralegal with about 2-3 years of experience.
Responsibilities
Trusts & Estates:
- Maintain Will and healthcare lists
- Maintain various ledgers for trusts.
- Maintain GRAT lists; update attorneys on deadlines.
- Assist Attorney’s in probate administration
- Estate duties arranging documentation necessary to maintain records
- Drafting of probate filings and all probate related documentation, including receipt and releases.
- Ensure that legal documents are processed and handled in a timely and efficient manner in order to comply with appropriate regulations and deadlines, correspond with courts re status of filings
- Gather tax information and prepare inheritance tax return
- Assist Fiduciary accountant in gathering financial information for accountings and tax returns.
- Responsible for the management, coordination, and administration of all aspects of trust accounts which include, but may not be limited to, revocable and irrevocable trusts under wills and other accounts
- Responsible for gathering information re insurance trust payments; updating trust ledger and preparing crummy notices for all insurance trusts
- Track and pay the quarterly estimated taxes for trusts.
- Request and forward payments from trust accounts
Foundation Duties
- Review requests, research charitable status of entities, prepare correspondence requesting check requests; forwarding checks.
- Maintain grant and pledge lists for each foundation; forward the same to President of foundation for review.
- Review all foundation mail
- Correspond with financial advisors refunds and update attorneys re the same.
- Gather information for 990PF return.
Requirements
The position is for a small department and under the supervision of a partner and senior associate. We need someone capable of keeping track of deadlines and meeting them on his or her own. A candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 2-3 years of experience in the practice area at a major law firm; must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, e-filing, FileSite or DeskSite.
