Summary
The Sr. Manager, Business Development – Corporate works closely with the Associate Director, Business Development – Corporate on the development and implementation of strategically focused business development-related initiatives to secure new clients and strengthen existing relationships, consistent with the overall goals and strategies of both the Corporate Department and the Firm. Working with the Corporate and Tax practice groups and integrating across practices with the full Business Development team, the Sr. Manager, Business Development – Corporate will coordinate and integrate efforts to ensure that the group provides the highest quality programs and resources available to the partnership, specific practice areas and individual high-potential attorneys.
Responsibilities
- Proactively identify, develop and implement effective marketing and business development strategies for assigned practice groups.
- Meet with Corporate/Tax Partners to execute on any requests regarding Business Development efforts (pitches, RFPs, thought leadership and brand-building opportunities). Develop content and determine the most effective approach for client presentations.
- Initiate, support and assist with development, coordination and implementation of targeted business initiatives on multiple levels: multi-practice, single-practice and individual partners, including coaching.
- Advise on and manage Corporate pitches and RFPs in their entirety including ensure that the tools and processes that go into the preparation of materials for pitches and RFPs are meeting expectations. Advise Partners on successful pitch strategies and handle post mortem reviews to improve processes.
- Work with partners, and in some instances counsel, on their individual business plans in terms of both development and execution
- Support deal reporting and tracking systems – as well as all ensuring the updating of all marketing and BD materials stemming from new deal/client announcements.
- Strategically develop and leverage the Firm’s client base through researching, analyzing and developing/examining potential or current client issues and creative data-rich profiles.
- Manage and review team’s award and directory (Chambers, IFLR, Legal 500 etc.) submissions.
- Team with functional specialists within Marketing & Business Development, including CRM, database marketing, PR, events, editorial services, creative services and publications. Coordinate with global offices to develop global databases, market knowledge, global collateral, etc.
- Develop cross-departmental opportunities with counterparts in Litigation and Bankruptcy to repurpose information, identify prospects and manage business development support.
- Provide research, synthesis and presentation of information for high-level decision-making.
- Track activities of competitors to identify new, effective and innovative business development techniques and enterprise strategies.
- Ensure clear lines of communication and coordination of programs and projects both within the Business Development group and with attorneys.
- Other business development-related services and administrative-related responsibilities as requested by and/or required for the Corporate Department.
- Any additional responsibilities as required by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required.
- MBA or a JD a plus.
- 6+ years of law firm business development experience in a top 100 law firm. Private Equity and/or M&A experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify relevant business development opportunities.
- Ability to work with, and instill confidence in, senior partners concerning business development and other client/profile-raising opportunities.
- Previous management experience required.
- Proven creativity, conceptual skills development and resourcefulness, as well as demonstrated experience effecting organizational initiatives and vision.
- Strong attention to detail and strong project management skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work with a “service” mentality.
- Excellent listening skills with strong follow-up skills.
- Ability to negotiate individual, group and firm-wide needs and to interface successfully with multiple levels of business development team (partners, associates, legal support staff and other marketing staff).
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision or direction.
- Strong writing, presentation and organizational skills.
- Drive and enthusiasm to work and complete assignments under tight scheduling deadlines in a team-oriented environment.

- Proficiency with key research resources (PitchBook, Preqin, Dealogic, Mergermarket, CapIQ, etc.)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) required.
Compensation
The estimated salary range is $180,000 – $195,000 (exempt). Compensation decisions within the range are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case including but not limited to the individual’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
