Marketing Manager

Washington DC

Reports to:  CMO (sits in NY)      

Large, global, law firm is establishing a local marketing presence in their Washington D.C. office.  They seek a marketing (Manager) with a broad range of skills who can establish confidence among partners and staff by providing excellent service and work product such that they are recognized as the marketing liaison for the office, while also serving as an integral member of the firm’s marketing team.  The candidate should have an outgoing personality, a professional mindset, be approachable in nature, and be able to work both independently and within a team. The ability to quickly understand and appreciate the firm’s culture and the particular needs of individual partners is critical.

The position will report directly to the firm’s CMO and requires daily interface with partners in Washington, while working in close collaboration with the marketing team in New York. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience in either a law firm or a professional services organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a full understanding of the firm’s DC practice groups.
  • Develop relationships with individual partners in DC and support their individual marketing needs – e.g. support writing, speaking and other pertinent networking opportunities.
  • Review and consult with attorneys regarding their bio profiles and practice descriptions to ensure that they are kept current.
  • Draft, coordinate and track DC office submissions and deadlines for Chambers and other approved directories and rankings and use this process as a resource to keep current on practice trends, and partner highlights.
  • Develop relationships with local marketing colleagues at peer firms for information gathering/insight.
  • Organize marketing and business development events and programs including support for seminars, sponsorships and client/alumni events for the office.
  • Track office PR and news items to develop potential media stories under the direction of the CMO and/or PR Manager.
  • Gather and manage matter data and significant experience for practices/individuals to ensure the availability of experience firm-wide, including content for the firm’s website and intranet specific to the D.C. office.
  • Support the development of pitches and presentations working closely with the Business Development manager in New York.
  • Support Client Relationship Management (InterAction) initiatives and work with support staff to ensure that accounts are maintained.
  • Manage day-to-day projects to ensure that assignments are effectively performed in alignment with the firm’s overall strategic marketing efforts.
  • Ensure that the Washington office utilizes all firm branding tools and is presented in a professional and thoughtful manner.
  • Works with DC staff and team in a collaborative manner.

Experience and Skill Requirements

  • 5 years experience in either a law firm or a professional services organization
  • Creative and inquisitive thinker who will bring fresh perspective and market intelligence to the marketing/business development team
  • Ability to effectively interface and communicate professionally on multiple issues with all levels of staff (including Partners, Senior Management and IT) and resolve situational problems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, in order to produce accurate and high-quality work adhering to the firm’s standards
  • Self starter/critical thinker able to manage projects and work within time deadlines under pressure
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite 5 (InDesign and Photoshop) and InterAction a plus
  • Strong team player
  • Knowledge of and facility with social media and mobile technology a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
