Business Development Manager (Restructuring + Tax + Executive Comp)

Summary

The Business Development Manager works closely with the Business Restructuring, Tax and Executive Compensation groups to develop and sustain loyal client base for increased work, revenues, and profitability.

  • Lead the development of concise and actionable business development and marketing plans, with underlying budget recommendations, collaborating closely with Senior Business Development Manager to ensure plans integrate with and support firmwide marketing and business development goals and strategies.
  • Collaborate with other relevant practice groups to promote cross-selling ideas.   Consistently demonstrate the value that Marketing Department resources can bring to bear in meeting the firm’s financial and practice goals.
  • Advise attorneys on optimal strategies for the preparation of complex pitches and RFP/RFI responses, demonstrating the ability to match the client needs with Firm’s Business Restructuring, Tax and Executive Compensation capabilities and value-adds.  Execute pitch and RFP/RFI strategies based on consultation and collaboration with attorneys.
  • Implement business development and marketing plans for Business Restructuring, Tax and Executive Compensation groups. Manage, appropriately budget for and measure progress against stated goals, communicating wins and troubleshooting challenges or stalled activities with practice co-chairs.
  • Draft and maintain marketing content for assigned practice group websites, including practice group descriptions, bios, and related content.
  • Strategically plan and execute client development seminars/events, collaborating closely with practice groups and Marketing Department.  Assist with all stages of seminar and event development and implementation, from targeting attendance participation to leading action-oriented follow-up.
  • Conduct competitive intelligence and research for active pitch opportunities, prospective targets, industries, markets, and conflicts via firmwide resources.  Ensure existing client relationships are fully mined and leveraged where possible.
  • Enhance the position of the firm or practice group in the marketplace by proactively identifying speaking and sponsorship opportunities, collaborating closely with practice group leaders and Marketing Department; target appropriate membership opportunities, etc.; create visibility; and advance business development goals. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Five or more years of professional services business development and/or marketing experience; law firm experience highly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of Business Restructuring practice, with direct work experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of core marketing principles including driving innovative tools and programs, competitive intelligence, market research, and pitch and RFP responses.
  • High degree of motivation, with driving sense of responsibility, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Excellent writing skills.  Ability to focus written materials to ensure impact on general business, legal, and niche populations.
  • Strong business acumen: the ability to recognize marketing and business development opportunities and to pursue them strategically.
  • Excellent attention to detail in all areas, including writing, copy editing, researching, and managing data.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions, including ability to draw clear conclusions from a diverse collection of data.

Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health/welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and PTO. The range displayed is specifically for positions performed in those cities/states and may vary based on factors including but not limited to the following: local market data and ranges; an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience; and certain degrees, licensing, and certifications. 

**New York salary range: $140,000.00-$185,000.00, plus bonus.
