Summary
California based Global Law Firm is seeking an experienced writer and project manager to lead our survey and awards program as part of the marketing team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting our lawyers and accomplishments with legal surveys, leading awards organizations and publications to increase our rankings, visibility and recognition. The candidate is also comfortable working with all levels of the organization, are passionate about writing and excel at developing and managing complex processes. This position can be based in our Bay Area/Santa Monica (CA), Seattle (WA) or New York (NY) office.
Responsibilities
The Survey and Awards Manager will oversee and administer the firm’s awards and honors and survey submission program, while helping standardize the nominations and submissions process, and help develop and execute the firm’s strategy for nominations and submissions, rankings and league tables. They will identify and track opportunities for the firm and its lawyers to submit for awards and honors as well as to respond to surveys on diversity and inclusion, corporate social responsibility, pro bono and other strategic investment areas. The Manager will coordinate and staff interviews with legal directories and organizations and maintain a calendar of deadlines related to submissions for legal directories, surveys and awards. They will also compile and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual summary of honors and recognitions, and update award and survey organizations with news and developments (e.g. new attorney hires, practice group updates, etc.).
Requirements
- Passion for writing and demonstrated ability for project management; strength in writing about legal and technical topics.
- Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written, with a keen ability to capture, distill and accurately describe legal services. Excellent grammar, spelling and proofreading skills are required.
- Proficiency in MS Office such as Excel; advanced research skills are required.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to plan, develop and deliver a thoughtful and substantive presentation; ability to coach others.
- Excellent problem-solving skills including the ability to proactively provide solutions to prevent anticipated problems.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail and be highly organized and accurate is required.
- A strong client service ethic and the ability to react quickly and handle shifting priorities and requests from lawyers and leadership at all levels is required.
- Self-motivated and can work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment; ability to lead effectively and sets an example (a sense of humor helps too).
The qualified candidate will have 5+ years of business development, communications or marketing experience; professional services experience preferred. Proven track record of working directly with partners and attorneys on awards planning, tracking, execution and reporting. Preferred experience producing submissions for Chambers, Legal 500 and other lists and awards – either from within a legal directory environment in a research or editorial capacity, and/or within a legal or professional services environment working in a business development, marketing, or communications role. Bachelor’s degree required.
