Senior Billing Manager
Location: Washington, DC, Austin, Houston or Dallas
POSITION OVERVIEW
Manage the firm’s billing operations, inclusive of the ebilling process, with the objectives of meeting monthly and annual Firm goals while maintaining effective controls and efficient process, as well as positive and successful relationships with clients and firm personnel.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide daily oversight of billing operations and ensuring timely handling of client and attorney requests
- Manage Billing Supervisors and their direct reports, making sure firm policy and client guidelines are followed
- Analyze billing practices to determine process improvement and make recommendations for efficiency enhancements
- Develop and train team members to adapt to new technologies and processes to keep pace with rapidly evolving market changes and client demands
- Participate in annual performance reviews and lead staff to driving personal development initiatives and successful completion of annual goals
- Ensure department processes and policies are documented and centralized
- Participate and help with annual client rate reviews, making sure reviews are timely and accurate to attorney and client negotiations
- Oversee lateral associate onboarding and training for time and billing processes, as well as monthly working attorney reporting
- Assist the General Counsel’s office with compliance matters such as client matter closures and Outside Counsel Guidelines, as they relate to time reporting and billing requirements
- Coordinate with other backoffice administrative teams for effective handling of overlapping information requests and tasks
- Consult with billing attorneys and billing coordinators to resolve new or challenging billing situations
- Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new software, including testing and training
- Collaborate and coordinate with Collections team in the assessment and management of inventory, including the processes and systems utilized by the Billing team

Working Conditions
- Job is performed in a typical office environment, but allows for remote work, and is often dependent on input from others
- Long hours are required routinely, particularly during the first and last weeks of the month, and the last quarter of the year. Expected to be available remotely evenings and weekends, as general duties are subject to time pressures and constraints as well

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience: Ten years progressive management experience in accounting/finance functions, including supervision, or related experience preferably in a law firm or other large professional services organization.
Special Knowledge: Deep understanding of billing processes, preferably in a large law firm environment. Knowledge of and working familiarity with electronic billing and various vendors, as well as tools like BillBlast or eBilling Hub. Understanding and experience working with Minisoft ARCS 3 software. Basic accounting skills. General understanding of databases and data flow.
Technical Skills: Proficient in using Microsoft Office Outlook and Word, with strong working knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables and v-lookups. Prior experience with Aderant, Elite, or similar financial system is preferred. Familiarity with SQL and SSRS experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to learn new software quickly.
