Talent Manager

Summary 

The Talent Manager serves in a lead role to provide strategic direction and implementation for all aspects of one of the firm’s offices, including recruiting of summer associates, entry-level and lateral lawyers, legal personnel, professional development, diversity & inclusion, alumni relations and pro bono/community relationships.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for the counseling and administration of all attorney personnel matters to include arrivals, leaves, transfers, temporary assignments and departures.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the lateral recruitment process including engagement with headhunters, scheduling interviews, and managing offer decisions with Talent Leads and Practice Group Leaders.
  • Manage the onboarding and integration experience for new attorneys and lateral hires.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to Talent Coordinators and Assistants on the implementation of the firm’s entry-level recruitment strategies through the on-campus and in-office interview process and summer associate program.
  • Work with the Professional Development team to implement and administer the firm’s strategies for developing and advancing all attorneys through training, mentoring, career development, performance evaluations and other development initiatives, including oversight of the office’s Associate Advisory Committee.
  • Work with the Diversity and Alumni Relations team to implement and administer the firm’s inclusion efforts with respect to recruitment, development, advancement and retention of diverse and women lawyers, including oversight of the office’s Diversity Council and Women’s Initiative.  Additionally, work with the Director to maintain relationships with the office’s V&E alumni.
  • Build credibility and visibility as an effective spokesperson for attorneys and provide input to Directors and Senior Leaders regarding attorney perceptions and satisfaction within the office.
  • Monitor emerging trends in peer law firms with regards to all aspects of Talent Management.
  • Monitor and manage assigned budgets to control costs and use resources efficiently.
  • Prepare and maintain such reports as are necessary to carry out the functions of Talent Management.
  • Supervise and train Talent Coordinator(s), Talent Assistant(s), and Talent intern(s).

Qualifications

Education  

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience

  • Five years’ progressively responsible experience in a law firm or similar environment required; substantial exposure to recruiting and/or professional development in a law firm preferred.

Special Knowledge  

  • Organizational development, diversity and inclusion and career counseling.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of Firm computer software.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional travel and ability to work late hours.
