Business Development Specialist-Finance

Summary

The Business Development Specialist will be responsible for executing all marketing deliverables, together with the Senior Business Development Manager and support from the Business Development Assistant, primarily for the finance practice group, as well as other transactional practices and/or initiatives as required.

The position requires intellectual curiosity, the ability to think critically and strategically about a range of topics and issues, and exceptional attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing first drafts of pitches, RFPs, deal lists, brochures and other marketing materials, including drafting original content as needed
  • Maintaining and updating standard marketing literature for the practice group on a regular basis
  • Working alongside junior members of the team to execute legal directory submissions, league table submissions, biography updates, matter management and other routine projects
  • Take a leading role in overseeing finance league table submission deadlines and effectively leverage firm processes to more efficiently mine data and improve matter management and overall data collection
  • Assisting in planning, coordinating and implementing various client events, as needed
  • Providing support to execute strategic planning
  • Assisting in the maintenance of partner, practice, industry and client plans.
  • Analyzing market and competitor research performed by the Research Team on target clients and industries
  • Conducting additional market / competitor research using various internal and external databases
  • Supporting cross-selling initiatives
  • Supporting lead generation processes and identifying prospective client relationships
  • Monitoring and reporting client development activities
  • Develop strong familiarity with internal systems to compliment external research
  • Collaborate with members of BD to obtain an understanding of the firm’s practice areas and departments, matters, competitors and other factors that could influence the direction of research efforts
  • Obtain high degree of understanding of select partners, clients and prospects in order to be able to proactively identify and advance actionable information to BD colleagues and attorneys
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of business experience (2 years of finance-related legal marketing experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of finance terminology, deal types and the marketing of these services to corporate and financial institution clients a must.
  • Knowledge of key business development data sources such as Capital IQ, ThomsonOne, Bloomberg, Mergermarket, etc. a major plus.
  • Healthy competitive spirit.

  • Collaborative and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understands the pressures of working in a corporate environment and demonstrates potential for working well with attorneys who have a wide range of personalities, communication styles, business development goals and marketing and sales skills.
  • Exhibits high energy and genuine enthusiasm for the subject of legal marketing activities and goals.
  • Well organized — able to juggle several projects at once and manages stress well.
  • Proficiency required with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as these tools are used daily. Ability to master new technology applications quickly.
  • Long hours and occasional weekend work required.
  • A solid command of software applications to produce high-end, professional work product, including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience with corporate research platforms, including Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Deal Point Data, Mergermarket, Refinitiv, BoardEx and RelSci is a plus.
  • Experience with InterAction or an equivalent Contact Relationship Management (CRM) system

Work Environment

This role requires interaction with firmwide attorneys and administrative personnel on a regular basis, as well as communicating information to various groups within the broader marketing/business development department. The successful candidate will possess outstanding proofreading and communication (oral and written) skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize in a demanding environment with meticulous attention to detail and a professional demeanor.

Ability to respond to calls-to-action outside of standard business hours

This is a hybrid role which requires in-office attendance in accordance with the schedule set forth by the department. A hybrid schedule is an essential function of this role.

Compensation

$85,000.00-$120,000.00, plus bonus based on experience
