Conflicts and Risk Manager (Intake)

Summary

The Finance Department has an immediate opening for a Conflicts and Risk Manager (Intake) in either our Boston, New York, Washington, DC, Providence, Hartford, or Orange County office. We are looking for a detail oriented professional with conflicts and intake experience to lead a team of Intake Assistants in the administrative processes for all new firm clients and matters. The position will report to the Director of Intake & Conflicts. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead team of Intake Assistants to ensure intake process is running smoothly, manage queues, handle prioritization and coverage, fill in gaps where needed;
  • Train new hires, ensuring firm policies are being adhered to;
  • Understand legal conflicts and review intake forms to ensure conflicts issues were properly vetted;
  • Work with Conflicts Attorneys and Director in resolving complex issues arising from waivers and engagement letters, escalate as necessary and work with firm attorneys in understanding details of client and matter engagements;
  • Liaise with firm attorneys and Legal Executive Assistants to understand intake needs and provide excellent customer service;
  • Manage database integrity, performing large clean-up projects as needed, perform client and matter maintenance, work with teammates to update database regularly;
  • Lead and assist with large and complex intake projects that require supervision of multiple and large data sets, working with teammates on sometimes tight deadlines;
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once and pivot between requests, staying highly organized and responsive to time-sensitive emails;
  • Other related tasks as so required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of legal conflicts and intake experience in a high-volume environment, or equivalent experience as a legal professional or JD.
  • Knowledge of US ethical rules of professional conduct as they relate to conflicts of interest.
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, familiarity with web-based research for conflict checking purposes (InTapp and Aderant).
  • Knowledge of legal search databases and accurate typing skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Use of good judgment with respect to e-mail writing, conveying proper tone and demeanor.
  • Attention to detail, ability to prioritize assignments and move quickly from one to another.
  • Ability to work extended hours on a short-term and limited basis to accommodate short-term activity spikes and urgent requests.
